      My current book project, Novel Institutions: Realism, Anachronism, and the Nineteenth-Century Novel, focuses on anachronisms, institutions, and nineteenth-century English and Irish realism. Studying the novel’s confused chronologies and out-of-date characters, this project argues that realism locates its opposition to institutions in the very. The working-class family was a subject of recurrent concern through the 19th century. Seen by contemporaries as one of the essential building blocks of a morally healthy society, it had been subject to fundamental stresses as a consequence of the structural changes associated with industrialisation.
